Sussex Street Community Law Service is a free and readily accessible legal service to low income and disadvantaged people in the community. They have a long history of providing social welfare services and legal advice. They are a nonprofit non-government community-based organisation that provides access to accountable, non-judgemental and effective legal services to low-income people in the community.
This is a part-time position, 22.5 to 25 hours per week.
About You
Reporting to the General Manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations of the agency, undertaking a range of duties to ensure effective, efficient and appropriate delivery of services in accordance with the objectives and policies of the agency. In order to meet success in this position, you will have;
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
- Proven staff management and coordination skills, including the ability to work in a small team environment
- Demonstrated ability in planning, developing and implementing projects and policy
- Demonstrated budgeting and financial accountability skills
- Experience in marketing and promotion
- Knowledge and understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
The Role
This position requires a strong strategic management focus, and the determination to achieve results in a timely manner. You will use consultative processes to effectively engage and involve stakeholders, whilst providing leadership, control, planning, performance management, and decision making for the SSCLS team.
Management
- In conjunction with the General Manager, Principal Solicitor and IDAS team leader ensure that SSCLS is meeting service delivery KPI requirements
- Ensure Progress reports and Financial report milestones are met
- Develop and oversee statistic collection
- Collate and assist interpretation of data recorded by SSCLS and others
- Report to the General Manager on the operation of the agency
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate the agency's activities in accordance with the identified community needs
- Prepare draft tenders for General Manager to settle as required
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the agency's information systems in conjunction with Finance Officer
- Ensure the preparation of the annual report
Staffing
- In conjunction with the General Manager, recruit staff, students, and volunteers
- Process complaints in accordance with the agencies policies
- Provide appropriate induction and orientation to staff, students, and volunteers
- Ensure that staff undertakes the duties as required of them as specified in their Job Description Form
- In conjunction with Principal Solicitor and IDAS Team Leader, ensure staff comply with policies of the agency
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements
Finance / Funding
- Manage the financial systems of the agency including the preparation and monitoring of budgets in liaison with the Treasurer and Finance Officer
Policy / Law Reform / Research
- Identify law and policy reform needs and develop strategies to effect such reform
- Prepare relevant reports and submissions on behalf of the service
- Representation and Community Liaison
- Assist the General Manager in coordinating the development and maintenance of networks and links
- Represent the agency on relevant external committees/bodies
- Co-ordinate advertising and promotion of the agency
- Convene and coordinate a range of activities as required, such as working parties, workshops, meetings, presentations etc
- Oversee the agency's Community Legal Education program
- Oversee the agency's Community Development Strategy
Publications
- Oversee the preparation and dissemination of newsletters, bulletins and other publications where relevant
- Prepare articles for other publications where relevant
- Coordinate editing of Law Handbook
- Initiatives to increase income from publications through marketing and promotion
