Our client is a Malaga-based boutique mineral analysis company. It was established in 2008 and is owned by a small group of key investors, most of whom are employees of the company. To ensure they are ahead of the game, this geochemical analysis laboratory use leading technology for their analysis work.


The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for supervising a highly skilled team of Chemists and Laboratory Technicians. They will also be required to be ‘hands on’ and assist and support their team when times get busy. The ideal applicant will have a strong work ethic and be able to deliver to deadlines set. For the right person, there is room for further growth as this company is expanding.


The successful candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry 
  • 10 years’ mineral chemistry or environmental laboratory experience
  • Experience as a section manager/supervisor
  • Experience in instrumental analysis (ICPOES/ICPMS)
  • The ability to carry out quality assurance checks (CRM’s) 
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse ‘big data’
  • Strong computer and systems knowledge
  • Advanced Excel
  • Business studies/management qualification desirable

Assessment Matrix design

Our custom-designed, in-house software generates an Assessment Matrix, serving as the blueprint for our recruitment process. This process includes screening, interviews, document verification, skills testing, personality profiling, and reference checks.

The Assessment Matrix marks the stage at which each criterion is addressed, with the most critical criteria being checked multiple times throughout the recruitment process.

Tertiary Qualification in chemistry (Bachelor’s degree or higher)


10 years’ experience in mineral chemistry or environmental laboratory  

Must be experienced in instrumental analysis (ICPOES/ICPMS)

Able to carry out production work and work with the team

Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse big data & identify trends

Experience of carrying out quality assurance checks (CRM’s)

Experience as a section supervisor/manager

Good at trouble shooting

Strong communicator (internally and externally)

Excellent at prioritising and getting the job done on time  

Strong computer systems knowledge

MS Office experience – must have advanced Excel

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Business studies/management qualification (desirable)
