Sheep Farm Management

A truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to relocate to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. 

Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to be responsible for farm management and logistics for sheep from Western Australia to Saudi Arabia. You will relocate to Jeddah to run the farm on-site with complete responsibility for large-scale sheep management.

The farm is 20km2 with plans of expansion into 2020. There will be an estimated 100k - 110k sheep located at the farm. 

  • The role

You will be self-managing and proactive, you must have a good working knowledge of OH&S requirements and be efficient with excellent farm management capabilities; ensuring all quality and maintenance standards are upheld.

  • Undertake all farm management to ensure the efficiency and welfare of the livestock exportation
  • Oversee the transportation logistics between stations
  • Manage a team of farmhands and veterinarians (~40 people)
  • General compliance with WH&S policies, and safe work practices
  • Undertake regular risk assessments and implement relevant mitigation actions
  • Manage the animal husbandry and welfare for the farm
  • About you

You will have experience running all day-to-day operations of a sheep farm.

To be successful in this position, you would ideally have;

  • Experience in large-scale farm management
  • High competence in being able to manage, organise, and operate a livestock property (internal stock movement, monitoring, induction, exiting, sorting, classing, marking, supervising healthcare and welfare)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safe-keeping sheep with an ability to identify associated risks with the livestock exportation (wellbeing, food, diseases)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to work with key decision-makers
  • Experience with farm logistics (livestock exportation) is desirable

There will be times when deadlines need to be met with little warning and the individual will need to be able to adapt to meeting tight deadlines. This job will suit someone who is enthusiastic, energetic and confident with adapting to the changing environment, and not reliant on rigidly following a process or procedure.

The role will require a person who is self-confident, unlikely to experience doubt as to their decisions and have the ability to act on instinct rather than following the procedure. The role requires someone who is likely to be confident, goal oriented and determined to get the job done to their liking. The person will need to be optimistic and enjoy socialising and meeting new people, a person who likes people and who is a good communicator and negotiator. This person would be happy to venture where others are more cautious and a person able to work independently; but at the same time recognising the need for conforming to certain rules or procedures in order to get the job done.

This role requires a person with an eye for detail and comfortable with following the procedures where required to get the job done. However, whereas the individual needs to be focused on getting the job done thoroughly and properly and according to the process, they need to have a degree of flexibility if necessary to get the job done.
