SMYL Community College is a referral only ‘Curriculum and Re-engagement in Education' (CARE) School that caters specifically for students who have disengaged from mainstream education at government secondary schools. The College offers a full-time alternative education programme under the School Education Act 1999 (WA) for 12 to 17 year olds.All students referred to the College have significant barriers to education. Teaching and learning is adjusted, and support services provided, to meet students’ needs. We follow a case management model in which every member of staff works in a team to find the right personal development and learning pathway for every student.The College is seeking an Education Assistant who is experienced at working with at-risk students in small groups and one-to-one. The successful candidate will ideally be experienced in working with youth presenting with mental health issues.The Education Assistant, working as part of a case management team, will be expected to independently supervise and monitor students, assist teachers and trainers to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), support literacy and numeracy activities and encourage student engagement in classroom/workshop activities.Education Assistants will be expected to perform at level 3 of the following standards adopted by SMYL:Know students and how they learnKnow what and how to teachCollaborate with teachers to plan for and implement effective teaching and learningContribute to maintaining a safe and engaging learning environmentContribute to assessment, providing feedback and reporting on student progressEngage in professional learningEngage professionally with colleagues, parents, carers and communityQualifications for the position:A Certificate IV in Education Support; andA current Working with Children Check. 80000 AUD Australia - WA Perth Rockingham & Kwinana Rockingham 6168
